PORT ANGELES — William R. Fairchild International Airport will get new pavement, runway lights and pavement markings under a project scheduled for this summer.
The bid opening is set for June 22 and the 90-day project must be completed by Oct. 15, according to the bid proposal released this week.
The project includes reconstruction of the terminal apron pavement, including excavation, plus new apron and taxi lane pavement markings.
It also includes installing new lights marking the runway, runway edge and runway threshold.
Stormwater drainage and a new electrical system for the runway lighting also are planned.
Long planning period
Port Commissioner Bill Hannan of Sequim said the project has been in the Port’s plans for quite a while.
It will be funded with a Federal Aviation Administration grant, which includes a local match, he said.
FAA project grants usually pay 90 percent with the local airport authority responsible for the other 10 percent.
No project cost estimate was available.
