PORT ANGELES — The grant writer who helped the Port of Friday Harbor secure $350,000 in federal funds for its airport could help the Port of Port Angeles pursue the same grant program.
Russ Veenema, chairman of the Port Angeles Airline Task Force Committee, said the group received advice from the president of William R. Fairchild International Airport’s only scheduled airline.
“The committee received some good information from San Juan Airlines president Clyde Carlson on the success they have had in Friday Harbor going after the same Small Community Air Service Grant,” Veenema said.
So Carlson will contact the unidentified grant writer to find out the best process for putting together a Port Angeles application for funds, Veenema said.
The federal Department of Transportation is seeking proposals from communities with small airports that are concerned about air service and fares.
The Small Community Air Service Development Program offers $19.4 million in grants for up to 40 communities nationwide.
Each state is limited to four grants of up to $500,000 each.
