PORT ANGELES — About 90 people celebrated New Year’s Day with a run into the chilly water of the harbor.
A light mist, air temperatures in the upper 40s, water temperatures in the lower 40s and an incoming tide complete with bobbing beach logs could not stop participants of the 15th annual Polar Bear Dip from hitting the water.
The event attracted more than 250 onlookers, and people of all ages ran three times into water from Hollywood Beach.
“Maybe the adrenaline is keeping them warm,” said Laurie Eads as she watched her husband prepare for his first dip.
“I have no idea why he is doing this, but our son, Zachary, and I are here to support him.”
