Port Angeles: 9/11 memorial set for Saturday

PORT ANGELES — A 9/11 observance and public safety tribute will be held at the Francis Street Waterfront Park and Public Safety Monument at noon Saturday.

The purpose is to share in remembering the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, as well as pay tribute to local police, sheriff, fire and 9-1-1 personnel.

Saturday’s 30-minute ceremony will begin at noon with the presentation of the American flag by the Clallam County Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard and Sheriff Joe Martin.

The park overlooks the Waterfront Trail and is located at the north end of Francis Street, off Front Street.

Scheduled speeches will begin with Alan Barnard, who will host the ceremony on behalf of the Public Safety Tribute and Living Monument Committee, which dedicated the monument on Sept. 11, 2002.

Other speakers will include Port Angeles Police Chief Tom Riepe, Fire Chief Dan McKeen, Martin and Laura Rosser, Exchange Club member and features editor of the Peninsula Daily News.
