PORT ANGELES — A 20-lot subdivision on eight acres at the east end of Scribner Road received preliminary approval by a split City Council.
Mayor Richard Headrick and council members Grant Munro, Karen Rogers and Lauren Erickson voted in favor of the development.
Gary Braun, Larry Williams and Jack Pittis voted against it during a City Council meeting Tuesday night at City Hall.
More than 20 neighbors of the proposed subdivision in the foothills on the south edge of the city voiced concerns about drainage onto surrounding properties and traffic on surrounding streets such as Old Mill Road, Scribner Road, Albert Street and Thistle Street.
Jim Hendrickson, who lives on Coyote Run Lane, said Old Mill Road is substandard and overused, and there’s a terrible drainage problem from Coyote Run Lane to Thistle Street that must be addressed.
Bill Jensen, who lives on Rhodes Road, added that Old Mill Road is a liability to the city.
