Police: ‘Medical event’ in Port Angeles vehicle crashes

PORT ANGELES — A Joyce man who was having a “medical event” crashed into at least three parked cars near Jesse Webster Park on Friday, Port Angeles police said.

The driver, Robert E. Manley, 53, was taken to Olympic Medical Center. He was treated and released Friday, a nursing supervisor said Saturday.

Officer Whitney Fairbanks responded to a report of an erratic vehicle at about 3 p.m. Friday and found the 1992 Lexus coupe that Manley was driving at the corner of Fourth and Eunice streets, Deputy Chief of Police Jason Viada said.

“Officer Fairbanks’ investigation determined that the driver … was having a medical event and not under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” Viada said in a statement.

“Manley was transported to the hospital.”

Manley was being investigated for driving with a suspended license, driving without a required ignition interlock device and three counts of hit and run, police said.

The Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office will consider filing formal charges against Manley this week.
