Police: Burglar enters Port Angeles house while residents sleep

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles police are seeking a person who burgled a house while the residents slept.

At 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, police received a report of a burglary and vehicle theft in the 700 block of East Third Street, said Deputy Chief Brian Smith.

Investigators believe the house was entered between 10 p.m. Tuesday and early Wednesday while the residents slept, Smith said.

The residents told police they woke up to find they were missing a computer and other valuable items, as well as keys and a green 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee, he said.

Took vehicle

Smith said it was apparent the burglars used the keys to take the vehicle, which was recovered at 10 p.m. under the Tumwater Street viaduct.

It was uncertain how the burglars got in the house; homeowners told police it was locked, but there was no evidence of forced entry.

Phone police

Anyone with knowledge of related suspicious activities or who has security video of the area is asked to phone police at 360-452-4545.

On Wednesday, officers were going door to door to talk to area residents to see if any had seen loitering or trespassing individuals in the neighborhood recently.

No spike in burglaries

Smith said that between Jan. 24 and Feb. 10, the police department responded to and investigated nine burglaries.

During the same period in 2015, the department responded to and investigated 15 burglaries in the city, he said.
