Poetic Justice Theatre Ensemble to tackle topic of parenting in Port Townsend performance Tuesday

PORT TOWNSEND — “Parenting: The Great Balancing Act,” a combined theater performance and community dialogue, will arrive at the Port Townsend Community Center, 620 Lawrence St., on Tuesday for just one show.

Admission is on a pay-what-you-can basis, and no one will be turned away, though the Poetic Justice Theatre Ensemble, presenter of the play, suggests a $10 donation.

Parents are asked to make other arrangements for their children, since this is an event for adults.

The 4 p.m. performance will explore how parents can create balance in their lives, said Zhaleh Almaee Weinblatt, a member of Poetic Justice.

“Getting to work on time, checking email, making dinner, a well-tended home, a date night with your loved one, a creative life, taking an undisturbed shower: Are these really possible when raising kids?” she asks in the news release.

“Every parent finds a way to get the job done, but at what cost? The delicate balance of time and priorities is a constant dance,” Weinblatt writes.

“How do we make the ‘right choices’ for ourselves and our children? What can we learn from each other on the journey of parenting?”

In Tuesday’s performance and dialogue, the Poetic Justice ensemble will invite audience members to share their stories, struggles and dreams as parents or caregivers.

Then the actors and audience members can share the stage and explore solutions.

“Come participate actively or simply witness the process,” Weinblatt writes.

Now in its 14th season, the Poetic Justice Theatre Ensemble is part of Port Townsend’s nonprofit Mandala Center for Change.
