Plea agreement likely in child rape case involving Sequim educator

PORT ANGELES — A plea agreement is in the works for a former educator charged for raping and molesting two of his students.

Douglas John Allison, former principal and head teacher at Mountain View Christian School near Sequim, is expected to accept a plea offer in Clallam County Superior Court on Friday.

“I believe that we’re going to have a resolution of this case,” defense attorney Harry Gasnick said in a Friday court hearing.

“We’ll be prepared to announce that, or make the formal declaration on that, next Friday.”

A resolve/reset hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday in Clallam County Superior Court.

Allison, 55, is charged with eight counts of first-degree child molestation and four counts of first-degree rape of a child for alleged crimes against two female students, ages 10 and 11.

Each charge contains a special allegation that Allison “used his position of trust, confidence or fiduciary responsibility to facilitate the commission of the current offense,” according to the criminal information.

Gasnick on Friday told visiting Jefferson County Superior Court Judge Keith Harper that his client had met with a court-appointed psychologist on three occasions.

He said he would meet with Allison, who is being held in the Clallam County jail on $100,000 bail, to discuss the plea offer.

Clallam County Chief Criminal Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Michele Devlin did not object to the one-week continuance.

Earlier hearings had been reset because of mounting evidence associated with the case.

Allison was arrested March 29 after a Clallam County Sheriff’s Office investigation.

He was fired and replaced by the Washington Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, which operates the small private school, when the allegations surfaced.
