Pirate Pete’s Week celebrated at Peninsula College

PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College will host Pirate Pete’s Week, the college’s annual spirit week, with daily events on the Port Angeles campus beginning Tuesday.

Pirate Pete’s Week was founded when Peninsula College first added athletics back in the mid-1960s and has been a staple of Associated Student Council winter activities ever since.

Most of the events are open to participation by Peninsula College students and employees only, although the public is welcome to watch.

Open to the public are two basketball games in the gym at the college campus at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.: Peninsula College versus Shoreline at 7 p.m. Wednesday and Peninsula College versus Everett at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Prices for the games are $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and veterans and free for children under 12, and Peninsula College students and employees with ID.

Fans at the Saturday basketball game can participate in black light dodgeball at half time.

Also open to the public is a comedy show at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The show, which will contain adult content, is free for students and by donation for community members.

Stunt comedian and three-time Guinness World Record holder Matt Baker of Seattle will take the stage at the Little Theater.

“I’m thrilled to be able to bring Matt Baker to Peninsula College,” said Paige O’Dell, the Associated Student Council’s vice president of programming.

“His performance includes stand-up comedy and incredible stunts, making his shows unique and absorbing. I know he’ll provide a fun, stress free environment for anyone who needs an entertaining night out.”

Baker, who was voted Seattle’s funniest alternative comic, has performed his comedy stunt show in more than 17 countries. He has appeared on numerous television shows including Last Comic Standing, Tosh.0 and America’s Got Talent.

His action-packed show seeks audience participation, and fans will see him spearing vegetables in mid-air, spitting ping pong balls at volunteers, catching a bowling ball on his head, as well as his famous “garden weasels of death” stunt.

Other events, all for student and employees only, are:

• On Tuesday — Inflatable joust from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the PUB.

• On Wednesday — College Cuisine Food Eating Contest at 12:30 p.m. at the PUB; Pirate Proud T-shirt Night.

• On Friday — Blacklight dodgeball, 5:30 p.m. in the gym.
