PORT ANGELES — The Elwha Klallam Heritage Center won the Pink Up Port Angeles window display contest.
“The window at the center at 401 E. First St. “touched the heart of the judges with the messages entwined in the pink ribbon of hope, strength, faith, cure,” said Linda deBord, chairwoman of the Pink Up Port Angeles campaign organized by the Soroptimist International of Port Angeles Noon Club.
The annual campaign raises money for Operation Uplift, a Port Angeles-based group that provides help and information for people with cancer.
Finalists in the window display contest are Pen Print Inc., 230 E. First St., Suite A; Angeles Vision Clinic, 811 Georgiana St.; and Rissa’s Consignment, 316 W. First St.
Twelve merchants signed up for the contest, deBord said.
Pink ribbons tied all over town last weekend will be taken down today after the weeklong fundraiser.
Events included free breast health exams for those who are underinsured or lack insurance, a Father’s Day “Pooch Walk” on the Waterfront Trail and a Pink Up Port Angeles “takeover” of the Chestnut Cottage for an all-you-can-eat spaghetti feed, with “celebrity” waiters competing for tips.
It culminated in a golf tournament Friday and a dinner and auction Saturday.
