A PARTIAL RAINBOW manifests itself in a high-altitude cloud over Port Angeles on Thursday afternoon.
The effect, known as a sun dog, is an atmospheric phenomenon that can generate bright spots with rainbow colored arcs as sunlight filers though ice crystals or clouds, often co-occurring with a lumenous halo circling the sun.
Sun dogs are typically short-lived, but can sometimes last for hours under ideal conditions.
