The four were learning techniques to better observe signs of substance abuse in teens as part of a Drug Impairment Detection in Educational Environments course sponsored by Jefferson County Public Health and Chimacum High School. Poulsbo Police Officer Luke Bogues, a drug recognition expert, taught educators, treatment providers, social workers and court-appointed guardian ad litems some of the signs and symptoms law enforcement uses to detect impaired drivers. The course is designed to use the same techniques to help identify youth abusing drugs and alcohol to connect them with community treatment resources.
