PORT TOWNSEND — Steve Hamm said he is “99.99 percent sure” he will have enough signatures to get the question of giving the Jefferson County Public Utility District the authority to provide electrical power on the Nov. 4 general election ballot.
“I expect that we’re going to present the signatures to the auditor next Tuesday at 10 a.m. for verification,” said Hamm on Wednesday.
Hamm is a member of Citizens for Local Power, which wants to see the local PUD get into the electrical power business in East Jefferson County.
Power now is provided by Puget Sound Energy, which serves most of eastern Jefferson County and much of Puget Sound.
“We are actually ahead of schedule on this,” Hamm said.
“I am pretty sure we have the signatures we need right now.”
If the measure is on the ballot and voters approve it, the district would the right to create electric services, but would not be required to do so.
