Pet food, supply drive planned for Olympic Peninsula Humane Society

PORT ANGELES — Compass & Clock members will host two pet food and supply drives this month to benefit Olympic Peninsula Humane Society (OPHS).

The collection drives for the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society (OPHS) will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sequim Safeway parking lot at 680F W Washington St., on Monday and the Port Angeles Safeway at 2709 E. U.S. Highway 101, on Nov. 16.

Mary Coupland, owner and founder of Compass and Clock, a publication and information resource for those aging into retirement years, is spearheading the drive along with the help of volunteers from Assured Hospice, Park View Villas, Highland Court Memory Care and We Speak Medicare.

“Pets are such a source of comfort to us all, especially in stressful times such as these,” Coupland said.

“Studies show people actually live longer if they own a dog or cat and they often recover quicker from major health events. This is especially true if they live alone.

”This year we thought we’d support our furry family members by holding these two food and supply drives for OPHS.

“People can drive up and drop off their donations and pick up Compass and Clock’s newest Fall/Winter publication at the same time.”

OPHS is a private, nonprofit corporation financed primarily by private community donations and gifts and is not associated with any national organization.

“We are truly grateful for our community that helps us save lives and find forever homes for the animals in our care,” said Luanne Hinkle, OPHS executive director.

“These drives help us offset the cost of purchasing these items we use in great abundance. We thank Compass and Clock and their members for helping us with this endeavor.”

Among items on OPHS’s list of needed item are dry dog food such as Purina Pro Plan, Taste of the Wild, Diamond Naturals, Nature’s Domain or any other higher quality food; canned dog food, both quality grain free and regular varieties; quality brands of dry and canned cat and kitten food and kitty litter.

Cleaning supplies include Clorox wipes, liquid Lysol, bleach, liquid laundry detergent, dish and hand soap, paper towels and toilet paper.
