In this photo, men in yellow protective suits gather and inventory some of more than 1,800 pounds of unwanted commercial pesticides collected at H.J. Carroll Park in Chimacum on Wednesday.
The program, which accepted pesticides from businesses and farms in Jefferson, Clallam and Kitsap counties, was brought to Chimacum by Al Cairns, Jefferson County solid waste supervisor, in cooperation with Joe Hoffman, pesticide specialist with the state Department of Agriculture pesticide management division.
The hazardous pesticide material, which included fumigants and chlorine gas, will be shipped to thermal destruction plants in Utah and Arkansas, Hoffman said.
