PenPly office to get painted as Port Angeles city manager makes good on promise to mill’s president

PORT ANGELES — City Manager Kent Myers is making good on a promise he made a couple of months ago to Peninsula Plywood President Josh Renshaw.

Myers told Renshaw that if he got the former KPly mill restarted, he would paint the company’s office.

The mill reopened March 1, and in about three weeks, the office will get a new coat of paint.

“I challenged him: If you can get things done and actually reopen the plant, I will commit to organizing a painting project,” Myers said.

But Myers won’t be working alone on the day of painting, May 1.

“It looks so far we have about 20 people signed up,” he said.

The brown building will be repainted tan with a brown and green trim.

Renshaw said the act won’t go unappreciated.

“We’re awfully appreciative of the city,” he said. “I don’t know very many communities that do that.”

The painting will be part of the second round of “Our Community at Work — Painting Downtown.”

Group co-chair Jan Harbick said they are looking at painting another four buildings downtown this summer.

Myers said donations still are needed for the painting effort.

He said checks can be made to the Port Angeles Downtown Association’s OCAW fund.

Renshaw said he will spruce up the mill in anticipation of the arrival of a cruise ship in May.

He said the north-facing side of the mill will be sprayed with bleach to remove the moss.
