Both of the General Motors dealers on the North Olympic Peninsula appear to have escaped cuts from the parent company.
GM told more than 1,100 dealers Friday via Federal Express that their franchises would not be renewed next year.
The two GM dealers on the Peninsula are Koenig Chevrolet Subaru and Ruddell Auto Mall, both in Port Angeles.
The Koenig dealership definitely will not be cut, said Chris Koenig, vice president.
Howie Ruddell, Rudell Auto Mall owner, is out of town on vacation, but two sales managers, Ray Robinette and Mark Thompson, said they had not received notice that the business will be included in the cuts.
Said Koenig: “We’re moving forward with reinventing GM, and we basically credit the hard work and dedication of our employees for making that possible.”
He said the Koenig dealership, which began in 1975 in Port Angeles, is the oldest continually operating GM dealer on the Peninsula.
The GM cuts affect 18 percent of the company’s 5,969 dealers.
