The seaports in Port Angeles and Neah Bay will not receive federal funding to bolster security.
The Port of Port Angeles, the Makah tribe and the state Department of Ecology sought nearly $1.1 million in March to provide security enhancements along the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
But only Puget Sound and Columbia River-based ports were listed in U.S. Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta’s announcement this week that $5.7 million in grants would be allocated throughout the state.
A total of $92.3 million is being given by the U.S. Department of Transportation to 51 ports nationwide.
“It’s disappointing. We were hopeful,” Port of Port Angeles Executive Director Clyde Boddy said.
