PORT ANGELES — The company that owns the Victoria Express passenger ferry will launch a second vessel May 29, adding round trips to Friday Harbor and Victoria from Port Angeles, its owner announced Monday.
“It is literally the missing link of a triangle to provide service from the Olympic Peninsula,” Jack Harmon said Monday after making his announcement to the Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce at its membership luncheon in the Port Angeles CrabHouse Restaurant.
The restaurant is steps away from the Victoria Express ferry landing, which began offering temporary midwinter service to Victoria on Sunday in place of the car-passenger ferry, MV Coho.
A second boat, the former San Juan Explorer whale-watching vessel that Harmon’s company recently acquired from Clipper Navigation Inc., is now in dry dock at Port Angeles Boat Haven marina.
It will be upgraded to 149 seats and painted red and white like the Victoria Express, and will be rechristened Victoria Express II, Harmon said.
