Peninsula school districts gear up for returning students (Corrected)

EDITOR’S NOTE: The date of the first day of school for the Port Angeles School District has been corrected in this report.

Summer is almost at an end.

Classes in Clallam County public schools will resume the first week of September for the 2015-16 school year.

Jefferson County schools will reopen the following week after Labor Day.

Classes will resume for students in the Port Angeles area on Sept. 3 and in Sequim on Sept. 1.

In Forks, school doors open Sept. 2, while students in the Crescent and Cape Flattery districts will return to class Sept. 3.

The first day of school in Port Townsend, Chimacum, Quilcene and Brinnon school districts is Sept. 8.

Port Angeles

Enrollment for students new to the Port Angeles School District, including kindergartners, is open at all schools.

Kindergarten students must be 5 years old prior to Sept. 1 to enroll for the 2015-16 school year.

The student’s birth certificate and immunization record are required for registration.

Elementary school class lists will be posted Friday at each school.

To determine elementary school enrollment according to home address, call district staff at 360-457-8575.

Back to school

On Saturday, a back-to-school event will be held to distribute free school supplies, give free haircuts and provide community services resources and additional back-to-school information to families in need of assistance.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Jefferson Elementary, 218 E. 12th St.

There is no income certification required for families seeking assistance.

PA High School

Returning high school students received their schedules in June before the end of the 2014-15 school year.

New students can enroll and register for classes at the high school at 304 E. Park Ave.

During Rider Days, students report to the student center between 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to pay necessary fees and get locker assignments, student identification cards, school photos, parking registration and payment of student fees.

Thursday is for seniors and Friday for juniors. Sophomore Rider Day will be Aug. 24. Freshmen come in Aug. 25. A makeup day is scheduled Aug. 26.

Lincoln High School

Lincoln High School students can register for classes from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

Stevens Middle School

Stevens Middle School students will receive schedules and turn in paperwork Thursday.

Here is the schedule:

■ Grade 7, last name A-L — 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

■ Grade 7, last name M-Z — 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

■ Grade 8, last name A-L — 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

■ Grade 8, last name M-Z — 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Students who cannot attend can contact the Stevens office at 360-452-5590 after Thursday to arrange for registration. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

North Olympic ­Peninsula Skills Center

Registration and course information are available at www.nopsc.org.

Students can complete enrollment and return it now to Skills Center staff on site, 905 W. Ninth St.

Sequim School District

Kindergarten and new student registration is ongoing at Sequim School District offices, open 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

Sequim Middle School new family orientation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday, followed by Timberwolf Days.

During Timberwolf Days, students will receive schedules and turn in paperwork.

Here is the schedule:

■ Last names A-K — 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

■ Last names L-Z — 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Sixth-grade orientation will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon Aug. 28.

Sequim High School

At Sequim High School, Wolfpack Days will be Thursday and Friday.

Seniors, juniors and sophomores are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday. Freshmen are scheduled Friday. Those with last names beginning with A through K are expected from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.; L through Z are set from noon to 3 p.m.

Freshman orientation will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 31.

A Back to School Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Sequim unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula, 400 W. Fir St.

Open houses at Greywolf and Helen Haller elementary schools will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 31.

Quillayute Valley

New student registration can be done between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays at Quillayute Valley School District offices, 411 S. Spartan Ave., Forks.

Forks High School’s registration week will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day this week.

Seniors register Monday, juniors Tuesday, sophomores Wednesday and freshmen Thursday

Makeup day for all students will be Friday.

Freshman orientation will be from 7 a.m. to noon Sept. 1.

Returning elementary, intermediate and junior high school students in the district have already received their class assignments.

Cape Flattery

Cape Flattery School District offices are open for new student enrollment at 13-193 state Highway 112.

Clallam Bay School, 16933 state Highway 112, is open for new student enrollment and registration.

New school hours for middle and high school students will be implemented Sept. 3. The hours will be from 8:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Neah Bay High School will register students Aug. 25-27 in the Neah Bay High School commons, 3560 Deer St.

Alternative education students will schedule individual meetings with instructors.

Markishtum Middle School in Neah Bay will register students Aug. 27. Sixth-grade students and parents will meet at 9 a.m. Seventh- and eighth-grade students will register from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Neah Bay Elementary School Back to School Night will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 2.

Crescent School ­District

New student registration is available from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at district offices, 50350 state Highway 112.

Class supply lists for Joyce’s Crescent School for grades kindergarten through 8 are on the district website, www.crescentschooldistrict.org.

Students will receive schedules and additional information in their first-day packet in their first-period class.

Jefferson County

In Jefferson County, the seventh annual Back-to-School Clothes Swap will be Saturday in the multipurpose room at Chimacum Elementary, 91 West Valley Road.

The clothes swap will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers helping with the swap can be early bird shoppers starting at 8 a.m.

Clothes can be donated from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.

Those who donate clothes will receive coupons that can be used to purchase clothes at the swap meet.

Those who have no clothes to swap can purchase clothing items for $1 each.

Port Townsend High School freshman orientation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sept. 1.

New high school student registration is planned from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 2. Appointments are needed via 360-379-4523.

New family orientation at the Chimacum School District will be at 4 p.m. Sept. 2.
