There’s a push around the country to change what our money looks like.
The year 2020 will mark the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote.
An organization called Women on 20s wants to mark the occasion by getting a female leader’s face on currency.
The organization wants to bump Andrew Jackson off the $20 bill to make way for a female “disrupter” – someone the nonprofit describes as a woman “who led the way and dared to think differently.”
Its website invites people to vote for three candidates out of 15 in what it calls the primary round of voting. The top three women will advance to the final round.
The candidates include Alice Paul, Betty Friedan, Shirley Chisholm, Sojourner Truth, Rachel Carson, Rosa Parks, Barbara Jordan, Margaret Sanger, Patsy Mink, Clara Barton, Harriet Tubman, Frances Perkins, Susan B. Anthony, Eleanor Roosevelt and Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
