A nude woman led State Patrol troopers on a 20-mile chase at speeds of up to 100 mph on U.S. Highway 101 between Carlsborg and Discovery Bay midday Wednesday.
She was booked into Clallam County jail for investigation of felony eluding.
Sgt. Galen Hester said the 43-year-old Port Angeles woman will receive a mental health evaluation.
“We’re very fortunate,” Hester said after the woman’s 1991 Mercury Sable station wagon was stopped near the Discovery Bay Store by a “spike strip” placed on the road by troopers.
“The spike strip flattened three of the four tires on the car,” Hester said.
Traffic volumes were light during the time of the chase, Hester said.
“No one got hurt, and that’s the best thing,” Hester said, noting this year’s numerous fatal crashes on the highway that is the main thoroughfare in Clallam and Jefferson counties.
Removing clothes
Troopers first heard reports about the woman from witnesses who said she was taking off her clothes alongside the highway near Joslin Road, just west of Carlsborg Road.
She then headed eastbound in the Sable.
