Peninsula nightspots make beautiful music to help tsunami victims this weekend

Four music venues — one in Port Angeles and three in Port Townsend — will host fund-raisers this weekend to support relief efforts for the Dec. 26 earthquake and tsunami that struck the Indian Ocean region.

* In Port Angeles, Castaways Restaurant and Night Club owners Stan and Sue Maharaj begin two weekends worth of fund-raisers at the 1213 Marine Drive nightspot starting tonight.

Performing tonight and Saturday will be Forrest Rosaire and Jimmy Hoffman’s Castaway Band, starting at 7 p.m.

Money will be collected for the American Red Cross, and raffle drawings will be held every half-hour with prizes donated by North Olympic Peninsula businesses.

Fund-raising events will also be held Saturday and next Wednesday through Saturday, Jan 15.

* In Port Townsend, Rebecca Wickens has organized a three-venue event tonight to raise funds for tsunami victims.

Sirens of Port Townsend, 823 Water St., will be the rock ‘n’ roll venue for the fund-raiser, featuring The Gelding, Love Doll Swingers and The Low Ones.

At The Upstage Theatre & Restaurant, 923 Washington St., Cafe Combo will perform jazz and blues.

Water Street Brewing, 639 Water St., will feature Crown Hillbillies and Matt Sircely.

Suggested donations are $5 to $10, and a hat will also be passed at the event, which starts at 9 p.m. at all venues.

Wickens said proceeds will be sent to the victims in the name of the Port Townsend community rather than as a private organization.
