PENINSULA DAILY NEWS AND THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
After months of deliberation, the Coast Guard will release its new anti-terrorism security regulations around July 1 for public and private ferries and tour boat services.
Though Washington State Ferries officials and lawmakers alike said they haven’t seen a draft of the unpublished rules yet, they expressed confidence the regulations won’t be as drastic as guidelines first proposed last fall.
“We’ve been working with the Coast Guard, and they’ve been very receptive to our needs,” said Patricia Patterson, spokeswoman for the state ferry system.
When the regulations are released in July, the public will have a chance to make comments, and the Coast Guard will consider making revisions based upon the feedback it receives.
The Coast Guard will produce final rules in November.
