KINGSTON — A vehicle-loading ramp at the Kingston Ferry Terminal collapsed Saturday, sending one dockworker into the water and stranding car-driving ferry passengers on the boat for three hours.
Just as the ferry MV Puyallup arrived after a 35-minute ride from Edmonds, a cable used to lower the ramp snapped. The metal structure bounced off the boat shortly after 10:30 a.m., Washington State Ferries spokeswoman Susan Harris said.
The hinges on the loading ramp were ripped apart and the ramp plunged into the water, taking with it a dockworker, Harris said.
The dockworkers name was not available Saturday.
