Kalakala owner Steve Rodrigues says he believes his 1935 art deco ferry might begin its journey from Seattle to Neah Bay by Thursday — but not without some last-minute regulatory negotiations with the state Department of Natural Resources.
“It could be Thursday or Friday or this weekend” before the ferry is towed, Rodrigues said.
He added that for safety reasons, he was in no hurry to tow the aged boat — although he believes it can be done at any time.
“We’re ready to go. We have everything on board,” Rodrigues told Peninsula Daily News Monday night.
“Everything is in place and secured.”
Now at issue are Rodrigues’ use of state DNR tidelands to moor the historical boat in Neah Bay, and what the DNR says is past-due payment for docking on Lake Union in Seattle.
