PORT ANGELES — The city Police Department will rejoin the Olympic Peninsula’s drug task force next month, thanks in part two Jefferson County law-enforcement offices as well as the Sequim Police Department.
The three have agreed to fund half the salary of a Port Angeles Police Department sergeant who will serve with the drug task force for three years
The city will pay the other half of the salary.
The Port Angeles City Council approved the arrangement at its Tuesday night meeting.
Having Port Angeles back on board means the drug-fighting task force should receive a $183,850 federal grant necessary to continue operating.
The task force’s 2003 budget is $468,000.
