Fewer businesses in Clallam County are selling liquor to minors in routine alcohol compliance checks, officials say.
In a recent sweep of Port Angeles- and Sequim-area businesses conducted by the county’s DUI task force, 26 percent of stores, taverns and lounges sold alcohol to underage customers, task force Project Coordinator Jim Borte said.
When the task force began checking businesses about 14 years ago, almost 45 percent sold liquor to minors, he said.
“Every time we do a round (of checks), we’re seeing fewer and fewer (violators),” Borte said.
A Dec. 14 sweep of 33 Jefferson County establishments found 21 percent of 33 compliance checks sold alcohol to minors.
Borte said the task force was not planning additional patrols on New Year’s Eve, a time when minors might be more apt to purchase alcohol.
