For most high school students, homecoming means school spirit, the “big” football game and a semiformal dance.
But amid all the hoopla, the real meaning of homecoming — the celebration of alumni — is slipping away at school districts throughout Clallam and Jefferson counties.
Of the nine public high schools in Clallam and Jefferson counties, officials at only two say they extend all the traditional homecoming honors to alumni.
Forks and Crescent high schools’ alumni are invited to participate in all spirit week activities and the homecoming dance. They also are recognized during the homecoming football game.
