Bob Sinnett of Sequim said he wanted “to give something back.” – He decided that the third annual Alaska Invitational, a golf tournament that the former Alaska resident sponsors at SunLand Golf and Peninsula Home Fund.
He said he was particularly impressed that every dollar contributed to the Peninsula Home Fund goes to making life better for children, teens, families and the elderly in Jefferson and Clallam counties — from Forks to Port Townsend, from Quilcene and Brinnon to LaPush.
No money is diverted for administration or other overhead.
This year’s tournament — an 18-hole, two-person team event, open to anyone who has ever worked or lived in Alaska and limited to 64 players — was held May 19 and resulted in contributions totaling $1,725 from tee and green sponsors.
This money was added to the record-smashing $40,845 from individuals, couples, businesses and school groups in Clallam and Jefferson counties contributed during the Peninsula Home Fund’s 2000 holiday fund-raising campaign that ran from Thanksgiving to Dec. 31.
The 2000 campaign broke the old record set in 1999 of $30,884.18.
The nonprofit Olympic Community Action Programs, the No. 1 emergency care agency on the North Olympic Peninsula, manages the fund for the Peninsula Daily News.
More than 800 families are being helped this year by the Peninsula Home Fund.
Every penny collected goes, without deductions, to individuals and families in Jefferson and Clallam counties — hot meals for seniors, warm winter coats for children, home repairs for the low income, needed prescription drugs, dental work, safe, drug-free temporary housing, eyeglasses, the list goes on and on.
Peninsula Home Fund contributions are often used with money from churches, service clubs and other donors, enabling Community Action to stretch the value of the contributions.

The Peninsula Home Fund has raised more than $200,000 since it began in 1989.

Tournament results
Jim Coulter won low-gross honors at the Alaska Invitational with a 76. Bob Lamm won low-net honors with a 65.
Dick Stirton and Don Scott topped Division 1 team play with 62, nipping Dave Holleman and Rick Mystrom’s 63.
Don Claussen and Fred Kazlauka shot a 59 to take Division 2, while Lamm and Sinnett finished second with a 60. Bill and Bonn Hubbard’s 66 was one shot better than Jack Dunham and Roger Laube to take Division 3.
