Gasoline prices on the North Olympic Peninsula over the weekend appeared to be near the national average.
An informal survey of prices across the Peninsula on Saturday or Sunday compared with a national survey of 8,000 gas stations nationwide.
The California-based Lundberg survey showed that the national weighted average price of gasoline, including taxes, at self-serve pumps Friday was about $1.42 per gallon for regular, $1.52 for mid-grade and $1.61 for premium.
Gas prices posted at stations across the Peninsula on Saturday and Sunday ran from $1.39 a gallon for regular at a membership station in Sequim to $1.70 for premium at stations in Port Angeles and near Port Townsend.
The good news, according to Lundberg survey analyst Trilby Lundberg is that prices appear to be edging down despite tensions in oil-producing regions of the Middle East and South America.
The decrease — the first since Feb. 8 — could be a sign that gasoline prices, which generally spike during the summer months, may have peaked, Lundberg said.
