Former North Olympic Peninsula state Sen. Paul Conner, 76, may be sent home from Swedish Medical Center in Seattle as early as today.
Conner entered the hospital last month to undergo triple-bypass heart surgery. The ex-lawmaker was walking the day after the surgery, his son, Kevin, said Monday.
A Democrat, he served the 24th Legislative District from 1977 to 1992. Before that, he served 18 years in the state House of Representatives.
He was instrumental in establishing the Adopt a Highway program and bills providing retraining for the slumping logging industry, his aide, Betty Chase, said. He also steered through legislation removing tolls on the Hood Canal Bridge and authorizing year-round ferry service between Port Townsend and Keystone.
