Washington Department of Natural Resources, Clallam County, Olympic National Forest and Olympic National Park on Wednesday boosted fire restrictions because of heightened dry weather.
Extremely dry conditions mean that nothing but charcoal barbecue fires and camp stoves will be allowed for personal use on state lands and in the county.
Any other burning is banned, including recreational fires, open burning and burn barrels.
“Don’t burn anything that will send sparks into the air,” warned Sheila Miller, Clallam County deputy fire marshal.
State and county officials raised the fire hazard rating to “high” on Wednesday.
U.S. forest, park rules
Restrictions in Olympic National Forest and Olympic National Park are slightly less stringent, with wood and charcoal fires allowed only in concrete or steel grated fire stoves. Those restrictions go into effect at 11 p.m. today.
Outside these areas, pressurized-gas camp stoves and lanterns using jellied petroleum or pressured liquid fuel are allowed.
Smokers are also urged to use caution.
