SEQUIM — Patti Bowery was ready to get out of California’s Sacramento Valley.
A native Californian and 24-year dog grooming veteran, Bowery was enticed by an adoring client — well, an adoring client’s owner — who lived in Sequim and brought her dog into Bowery’s grooming shop during regular junkets to Sacramento.
“She said, ‘Please, please move up there!”‘ Bowery recalled.
So Bowery, her husband and 10-year-old granddaughter packed their things and headed to the North Olympic Peninsula, opening Patti’s Grooming in early November on Bell Street in Sequim.
At first, she said, she anticipated scant competition.
“I figured there were only a couple of shops around here,” Bowery said. “Then I looked at the yellow pages and realized there are an awful lot.”
Perhaps, but there are also a lot of canines needing cuts, said Nicole Elackburn, who operates a grooming and boarding business between Sequim and Port Angeles.
