Peninsula College to award 457 degrees, certificates Saturday

PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College will observe its 60th commencement ceremony on Saturday when it awards 457 degrees and certificates to graduates.

Commencement exercises will be at 2 p.m. on the south lawn of the main campus in Port Angeles at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Speakers will include outgoing Board of Trustees Chair Mike Glenn and Student Body President Kacia Muscutt.

Guests are advised to arrive early and line up near the entry to Keegan Hall on the west side of campus.

The Pirate Café will be open with hot and cold beverages and snacks available. Doors will open at 1 p.m. and admission is limited to those with tickets.

At 2 p.m., all guests will be admitted to the venue to fill the remaining seats or to stand and watch the ceremony. Each graduate was given four tickets to disperse to their chosen guests. Once all ticketed guests are seated, there may be room for other guests.

Of the 457 graduates, 230 signed up by Wednesday to walk the line.

Degrees and certificates to be awarded are 16 bachelor of science, 235 Associate in Arts, 122 Associate in Science, 116 Associate in Applied Science, four Associate in Business, six Associate in Computer Science, 32 Associate in Nursing, 31 certificates, 79 high school diplomas and one GED.

Sixty-two students have earned the President’s Medal.

Running Start students graduating from high school and receiving a degree from Peninsula College number 86.

Seventeen international students will graduate this year. They are from Malaysia, China, Japan, India and South Korea.

The students range in age from 17 to 71, with the average age being 27.
