Peninsula College graduates excited, but apprehensive

PORT ANGELES — Whoops, cheers and some apprehension followed Peninsula College students through their graduation ceremony Saturday afternoon.

“It’s kind of exciting, but scary, wondering what I’m going to now,” new graduate Tivoli Young, 21, of Forks said following the ceremony.

More than 350 students graduated from the college this year, Vice President for Educational Services Allan Carr said.

About 150 students participated in the commencement ceremony in the Peninsula College gymnasium.

The graduates are of all ages and have attended the college for varied lengths of time, some for several years.

“It’s about time!” a man in the audience shouted as a graduate’s name was announced.

“It’s a relief to have something to show for what I’ve gone through, so far,” said graduate Ryan Trudeau, 20, of Port Angeles, who attended the college for two years and earned an associate of arts degree Saturday.

“I guess it’s just another step along the way,” said Trudeau, who plans to attend Western Washington University in Bellingham this fall.

The graduates processed into Saturday’s 40th annual commencement led by Associated Student Council President Vincent Masocol and Vice President Jennifer Ross.

Thomas Keegan, Peninsula College president, gave a welcome address to the graduates, followed by speeches from nursing student Nick Greeley and Peninsula Daily News Editor and Publisher John Brewer.
