PORT ANGELES — Brinton Sprague, a retired community college leader now living in Port Ludlow, will be Peninsula College’s interim president, taking over for outgoing President Tom Keegan on Feb. 6.
Peninsula College trustees selected Sprague on Tuesday from three applicants, none of whom currently work at Peninsula College, for the interim position to temporarily replace Keegan, whose last day will be Friday, Feb. 3.
Keegan, who has led Peninsula College for 10 years, was selected in October to be the new president of Skagit Valley College, where Sprague once served as vice president for educational services.
Sprague was a founding vice president for Cascadia Community College in Bothell, according to The Seattle Times.
He retired in 2001 but returned in 2004 to serve as interim president of the college.
He also has served as a division chair and director at North Seattle Community College.
Sprague received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington, a Master of Arts in history from Western Washington University in Bellingham and a doctorate from the University of Washington.
A search advisory committee is scheduled to meet with a search consultant in January to create a profile for a permanent new president.
Community forums on the qualities desired in the next college president have been held in Sequim, Port Angeles and Forks.
A forum will be at 5:30 p.m. today at the Port Townsend Extension site in the schoolhouse across from the Commons, Room D, Fort Worden State Park, 298 Battery Way.
The final Peninsula College faculty and staff forum will be at 4 p.m. today at the same place.
