PDN adds new-media director

PORT ANGELES — Katherine S. McKelvey has been named director of business development (new media) at the Peninsula Daily News, a new position at the newspaper.

The appointment reflects strong advertiser and consumer response to the PDN’s

Internet initiatives and the newspaper’s position as the largest source of local news and advertising in Jefferson and Clallam counties.

The PDN’s Web site, www.peninsuladailynews.com, had 589,213 page views in July, or about 45 percent more than the Web site achieved in July 2008.

In her new position, McKelvey is responsible for the direction and development of www.peninsula dailynews.com and for new interactive products from the PDN for the wireless and broadband environments.

“Katherine brings to the PDN a proven track record of revenue building, business acumen, professional depth and accomplishments,” said John Brewer, publisher and editor of the Peninsula Daily News, www.peninsuladailynews.com and Sequim This Week, the PDN’s weekly newspaper in Sequim.

“She will develop and maintain strong relationships with new and existing advertisers, while continuing to elevate our presence as the largest information provider on the Peninsula.”

A resident of Port Townsend, McKelvey brings more than 25 years of corporate sales and marketing, promotion and advertising experience in the hospitality/events management industry to the PDN.

She was the founder and publisher of Peninsula Lifestyle magazine. It later became Northwest magazine.

She has traveled and lived throughout the United States and Europe.

She holds a bachelor’s degree from Western Washington University and a master’s degree in recreation and leisure marketing from the University of Washington.

“I am dedicated to marketing and selling new media services and promoting economic growth on the North Olympic Peninsula,” said McKelvey.

“I want to help create a healthy local economy for merchants and residents.

“My goal is to provide sophisticated resources that reflect the quality of life in this region, as well as promote a healthy thriving local business community.”

Said Brewer:

“Katherine is now meeting and working with local businesses to develop strategic marketing and online advertising plans to increase sales and help grow new business.

“She is also working on the new PDN Shop Local Program, which will give Peninsula companies an opportunity to showcase their business online and drive online visitors to their stores and Web sites, with measurable results.”

McKelvey can be reached at 360-797-4483.
