PORT ANGELES — Each school district has its own policies, procedures and practices for its board. The Port Angeles School District Board of Directors is comprised of five elected directors who serve four-year terms.
The board’s primary responsibilities are to represent the community; adopt policies that assure the district complies with state and federal law; monitor operations to make sure they follow district policy; formulate and approve the district’s annual budget; and resolve complaints and grievances brought by students and staff.
In addition to participating in twice-a-month meetings, every director also serves on at least three of the 14 district committees: elementary, Cares Team-Community Engagement Boards for K-8 and for 9-12; secondary; CTE; audit; Education Foundation; educational technology; instructional materials; policy review; wellness; safe schools; district equity team; and capital advisory.
Directors largely serve without compensation, however they can receive $50 per day for attending meetings or performing of district-related duties, but the total amount can’t exceed $4,800 a year. They can also receive reimbursement for expenses related to travel on district business.
