PORT ANGELES — The project layout for the proposed Port Angeles International Gateway Transportation Center was unanimously approved by the Gateway review committee Thursday.
The group will meet again Aug. 28 to review estimated costs from the project architect.
The meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. at Clallam Transit System headquarters, located at 830 W. Lauridsen Blvd.
“We’ve agreed on the project layout, now we need to work on the details of cost and amenities,” said committee chairwoman Karen Rogers.
The Gateway Center is proposed as a central transfer point for buses, rental cars and taxis, also providing underground parking and other transportation services in an area bounded roughly by Front Street and Railroad Avenue at Lincoln Street.
The $11.5 million project still faces a $2.6 million gap between available funding and anticipated costs.
Project architect Lee Pardini from Merritt + Pardini of Tacoma presented revised project drawings that include an elevator between the facility’s parking levels; a one-story visitors center and driver layover building; 11 spaces for surface-level customer parking between; and a sloping entrance ramp for buses and pedestrians from Front Street.
