Tropical air from Hawaii brought more than the usual moisture to parts of the North Olympic Peninsula over the weekend, causing flooding danger and a few fallen trees.
A flood warning was issued by the National Weather Service for the Bogachiel River near Forks.
Drivers are warned not to pass through flooded areas when they are under a warning, the Weather Service said.
Jefferson County was under a flood watch Sunday evening.
A flood watch means conditions are likely to flood, but flooding is not imminent or occurring.
The rainfall was as result of winds off the Pacific from the southwest.
“We call it the Pineapple Express because basically a southwest flow of air is coming up from Hawaii,” said Dennis D’Amico, a meteorologist for the Weather Service in Seattle.
“It doesn’t need to happen in the winter, but it was associated with the flooding in November.”
“It taps into some subtropical air, and the air carries up to the Pacific Northwest.”
