After 16 years of ongoing dedication and perseverance for founding and providing leadership for the Parkwood Emergency Response Team (PERT), Mike Hansen, commander, and Peggy Green, secretary, were honored and presented a distinguished appreciation award upon their retirement.
The award was presented by the incoming commander David Goose (standing), with some members of PERT attending.
After isolation/safe distancing requirements are relaxed, a formal celebration will be held when all members of the Parkwood community can attend.
Hansen was instrumental in formalizing procedures for Disaster Preparedness for Parkwood Residents (210 households) by garnering support from the community owner and managers for: Map Your Neighborhood implementation; Neighbor Helping Neighbor support; disaster training and certification with ongoing training through Clallam County Fire District 3 and FEMA training for Parkwood volunteers; ongoing training with guest specialists at monthly meetings, as well as attending many meetings at the city, county and state level that are dedicated to disaster preparedness.
Parkwood has been “a visible beacon for other city and county programs due to his years of effort,” team members said. “He will be missed, but rest assured, he has laid the solid foundation for ongoing success of PERT.”
