PORT ANGELES — Chief of Police Brian S. Smith has sworn in Patrol Cpl. Erik Smith.
Cpl. Smith participated in a competitive promotion process during the spring. He was promoted from detective to patrol corporal. He joins the leadership on the Blue Patrol Squad.
He has been with PAPD for 13 years, the department said in a press release.
His training and experience include working as a patrol officer for both PAPD and the Salt Lake City Utah Police Department, working as the assigned PAPD school resource officer and working as a PAPD detective in the Investigations Unit.
Smith’s five years as a working detective has afforded him considerable experience in working and investigating all manner of violent crime.
He also is a trained homicide investigator and child interviewer, the department said.
He is currently completing a master’s degree program in psychology through Antioch University. He has a bachelor’s degree with a major in history and Spanish, spent several years working in Central America, speaks fluent Spanish and is a graduate of Port Angeles High School.
