PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles School District board member Jessica Schreiber submitted her resignation at Monday night’s School Board meeting.
The move makes concrete a decision that had been in the works since last August, when Schreiber first announced to the board that 2005 would be her last year.
Schreiber, who is moving to Chicago to join her husband, was elected to the board in 2002.
Applications for an interim board appointment will be accepted by the School Board during the next few weeks.
“The time has come for me to make my resignation official,” Schreiber wrote in her letter submitted Monday.
“I have learned so much about honesty, integrity, hard work and leadership from you, [board members] Charles McClain and Jeff Hinds,” added Schreiber, who is moving to Chicago where her husband, Eric, a radiologist, will work full-time at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
“Together we have tackled complex issues and made excruciatingly difficult decisions.”
Last Wednesday, an upbeat Schreiber — gladdened after the district’s maintenance and operations levy passed by 71 percent — told Peninsula Daily News she would quit soon to allow candidates to file for the September primary election to fill her slot.
Replacement rules
The School Board has 90 days after a vacancy to have a replacement sworn in, according to district rules.
The replacement application process will be opened in the coming days and should be completed in June, said Superintendent Gary Cohn.
