PORT ANGELES — Police officers recovered a body from 200 feet down the Peabody Creek gully at the east end of the Clallam County Courthouse parking lot at about 1:45 p.m. Saturday.
The body of the unidentified man apparently had been there for several months, said Sgt. Tom Kuch of the Port Angeles Police Department in an email issued just before 6 p.m. Saturday.
“Based on the initial investigation, it appears that a man may have fallen down or been pushed down the gully,” Kuch said.
The man was wearing blue jeans, a blue shirt and black tennis shoes.
Investigators did not see any obvious trauma to the body that may have contributed to the death.
They searched for identification but found nothing, Kuch said.
The body has been left in the care of a funeral home and awaits an autopsy, “which will hopefully reveal who this man was and how he passed away,” he said.
The investigation will continue.
