PORT TOWNSEND – The president of a private homeland security training business on Discovery Bay is seeking Jefferson County action to allow Clallam County law-enforcers to use its shooting range.
Joe D’Amico, president of Security Services Northwest, asked Jefferson County commissioners to approve an emergency order to allow North Olympic Peninsula law enforcement use of his shooting range and tactical training facility in Gardiner.
Because of ongoing litigation between Security Services Northwest and Jefferson County over land use issues, the shooting range has not been used.
D’Amico said because a range in Port Angeles is currently closed, the only other ranges Clallam County officers can use are in Forks or Port Townsend.
But the range at the Port Townsend Gun Club is already busy with Port Townsend police and Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies using it to practice, D’Amico said.
