PORT ANGELES — The Cornerhouse Restaurant downtown had an unwelcome customer overnight.
Between the time the janitor left at 12:30 a.m. and when the first employee went to work about 4:15 a.m. Monday, someone broke a window, went inside and stole a small safe and a 42-inch TV, owner Joanne Albertson said later Monday.
She declined to say how much money the criminals escaped with.
“They got out with a substantial amount of money though,” she said.
She said an employee found the safe broken open and empty about a half-block away from the restaurant.
“I’m just sick about this,” Albertson said.
“I can’t believe I’m the victim of a crime like this.”
The locks have all been changed and the window was fixed, she said.
“Just to think we can’t trust anyone anymore the way we used to,” Albertson said.
“I’m just too trusting I guess, but if someone comes back into my building they won’t find anything to take.
“We are survivors.”
