The first North Olympic Peninsula ballots of the Nov. 6 general election will be mailed to overseas and military voters today, while ballots for other registered voters will be mailed Oct. 17, Clallam and Jefferson County auditors said.
Clallam County will mail 365 paper ballots and 112 electronic ballots to overseas and military voters today, Clallam County Auditor Patty Rosand announced Wednesday.
In Jefferson County, 279 ballots will be sent today, including 175 paper and 104 electronic ballots, Betty Johnson, Jefferson County voter registration coordinator, said Thursday.
Ballots for all other voters are at the printers and will be mailed Oct. 17, 20 days prior to the Nov. 6 election.
Voters who will be unable to receive their ballot at their registered address between Oct. 17 and Nov. 6 should contact their Auditor’s Office with an address where the ballot can be mailed.
Ballots are not forwarded by the Postal Service.
Registered voters
Clallam County currently has 45,755 registered voters. During the Aug. 7 primary election, the county had 45,879 registered voters.
The county is getting a lot of new voters registering, but 700 voters were shifted to inactive status after their primary ballots were returned because of incorrect addresses, Rosand said.
“We have contacted those voters trying to determine if they have moved within Clallam County or left the area,” she said.
Rosand said she expects many of those inactive voters to return to active status once they reply.
In Jefferson County, 70 voters were shifted to inactive status, but the number of voters has increased, Johnson said.
In August, there were 21,890 active registered voters in Jefferson County.
As of Thursday, there were 22,099, with more people registering every day and some inactive voters reactivating their registration, Johnson said.
Current registration numbers change daily, she said.
The last day to register by mail or online, or to change the address within the state, is Oct. 6.
New voters may register in person at an Auditor’s Office until Oct. 29 for the November general election.
The Clallam County Auditor’s Office is located at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St.
