PORT ANGELES – St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church will offer emergency shelter to homeless persons starting Friday.
The church will open a door on the north side of its building at 510 E. Park Ave. that will lead into the large ground floor where beds will be set up.
Starting last November, Serenity House ran the Street Outreach Shelter at the Tempest Building, 535 E. First St.
The SOS operated until August, when it had to make way for a one-stop Housing Research Center.
St. Andrew’s privately agreed several weeks ago to operate the SOS if no other location could be found.
Serenity House announced the opening Friday.
“St. Andrew’s really stepped up to meet this challenge,” said Brando Blore, president of Serenity House’s board of directors.
“We are still looking for a closer location closer to the downtown, but in the meantime there is now a safe, warm place for homeless individuals on the street to go.”
